I remember in the 90’s buying tapes of MLK speeches in front of a BART station in west Oakland. Protests were common, and often held in front of the City Hall in the name of Mumia, police brutality, etc. etc.
For those not afforded a lesson in dissent that a city like Oakland, (Philly, Chicago etc) could provide, you may not be familiar with modern civil unrest. While theres nothing new about protest in America, is not common in New York and probably less common in this day and age among the middle class.
Prohibition, voting, civil rights and many more historical events all called for a united America to stand together, and stand tall for the very values they believed this country to be made of.
Now once again something has happened to move people of all walks of life to one place : in protest. I fully support this change, and hope and pray that the protests culminate into a peaceful and succesful end.
